Meet Your Whakatane Builder | Will Gudgin
I started my building apprenticeship after nine years in the hospitality industry.
While learning the trade, I was on the tools three days a week, studying two, and continued to work in the hospitality Industry on weekends. When the time was right, I moved into full-time construction work with a traditionally trained New Zealand qualified builder. They contracted to Fletcher Living building spec homes.
My three years of building with this company taught me the fundamentals of building good-quality homes in several developments around Auckland. From there, I moved into residential renovations and seismic strengthening before completing my apprenticeship back at Fletcher Living.
From there, I moved into high-end custom builds for a boutique developer on Auckland’s North Shore.
With experience in the bag and exposure to diverse projects, I understood how to guide a build from start to finish. Developing my project management skill set was the next logical step.
I oversaw the construction of a large commercial development specifically overseeing the construction of a road over a two-story car park, then moving into the architecturally designed, eight-story apartment block in in the same development at a prime Auckland location. I then moved onto site managing/project managing a small subdivision of ‘Homestar’ rated homes.
When given the opportunity to build a one-off, boutique country cottage outside Rotorua, I couldn’t resist.
That small taste of life in the Bay of Plenty was all it took. I loaded the tools in the back of the truck and headed south. Since making the move, I’ve focused on residential new builds, one-off custom builds, and home renovations. Including taking on a project that another building company had abandoned. This was an invaluable experience, I was able to bring my own team on board, solve a myriad of problems, and finish the house to an exceptional standard. The owners are now wonderfully supportive clients.
So, what does this all add up to?
I realised that there is a gap in the building market where bespoke home builds, complex problem solving, and exceptional, transparent customer service are all met.
Readapted Builders was created to meet this gap. We are a small, client-focused company, perfectly positioned to enable Bay of Plenty families to build outstanding homes.
